My Favorite Albums on Bandcamp

Bandcamp is doing a nice fundraiser today where they’re waiving their transaction fee to get more cash in the pockets of artists.

Tom is encouraging bloggers to share their favorite albums on Bandcamp so we can all find some new favorites and support great music. Join the #BandcampBloggingBandwagon.

I’m writing this post hastily too late in the day so excuse the poor album descriptions but I can’t pass up the opportunity for a bit of curation and list-making!

You should buy a few of these no matter when you’re reading this; even without the special promotion Bandcamp is one of the most creator-friendly platforms out there to help musicians monetize their work in a sustainable and independent way.

Sammus is an amazing rapper and I love her album Pieces in Space is fantastic. The song 1080p with Jean Grae is particularly great.

For whatever reason this song “The Mansion” by Nicholas Krgovich has really stuck with me. I actually sampled it for a beat I used in a song I recorded a couple years ago :)

Oddisee is another favorite rapper; here are a couple great albums of his, The Beauty in All and The Iceberg.

Here’s a very fun jazzy instrumental beat album, kind of a remix / recontextualization of some classic 1993 hip-hop.

Nicolas Jaar’s debut album Space Is Only Noise is great.

Little Simz is an amazing, underrated rapper.

Ancestral Recall by Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah has some really cool multi-instrumental jazz rhythms.

Homeboy Sandman is another Brooklyn favorite and this is one of his best albums.

Ivy Sole’s Overgrown is amazing, just consistently great hip-hop.

Kamasi Washington’s The Epic is one of my favorite modern jazz records ever; it is indeed epic!

Noname is great; grab one or both her albums!

Excellent EP from Poetic Thrust, awesome one-two punch of great instrumentalists + great rappers.
